Anti Piracy
Hi all, Does anyone know what the qual requirements are for CPO,s looking to work in Anti Piracy ?.
Also is it just former Royal Marines or can ex reg Army get a look in ?.
Cheers for any advice.
There are no set qualifications although some recruiting companies will have you believe so. Your biggest problem with anti-piracy is sorting out the real operators from the rest.
If you are not used to paddling around in the sea then there are some nice to have courses which you should consider;
Ships/Vessel Security Officer – an introduction into the IMO/ISPS security requirements
STCW -95 – while not essential this is a simple course which teaches you basic life skills and survival/fire fighting/first aid while at sea. All seafarers are required to undergo this courses.
Basic Boat Handling/Small boat/Rescue boat handling – these courses, which the navy and marines have the advantage over you, will open more doors in some areas.
People are going to try and hard sell you ‘anti-piracy” courses. Just be careful about these. They are not a requirement or to my knowledge an industry standard. I am new to this site, and if I can I would recommend IMSA, Ltd at Poole. I attended a SSO+ and PFSO course there and they are very good. They can also give you better advice on MAST/Anti-piracy vacancies.
I do know that http://www.goagt.org/ is also hiring people in a big way.
Hope this helps.
